DARPA recently disclosed information on its ARGUS-IS (Autonomous real-time imaging system ground ubiquitous surveillance) camera monitoring that uses hundreds of smartphone image sensors to record an image 1.8 gigapixels. Designed for use on an unmanned aircraft (probably MQ-1 Predator), at an altitude of 20,000 feet (6100 m) ARGUS can keep an eye on the real-time video area about 4.5 miles (7.2 km) wide to a resolution of approximately six inches (15 cm). ..
