'Big Brother' law stirs Lib Dems to revolt
Party is ready to stop the government's plan to provide security services for data access on the Internet
newLiberal Democrats should be prepared to pull the plug on the government's plans to provide security for controversial data access on the Internet, the new party chairman, Tim Farron, he said.
In a sign of deep malaise Lib Dem Plans, Farron said he would be raising concerns widespread in the game with Nick Clegg.
"As a liberal, I was extremely concerned by press reports of new surveillance powers, perhaps to be included in the Queen's speech," Farron wrote in a letter on the site Liberal Democrat Voice.
The party president, wrote on the site after expressing concern about plans GCHQ real-time access to Skype, IM, and messaging data. Lib Dem Voice published an article by Julian Huppert, MP for Cambridge, who convinced 15 of his parliamentary colleagues to sign a letter to The Guardian last week raised concerns about the plans.
- "Over the last two years we have made some mistakes, which is OK as long as we learn from them. This is our chance to implement these teachings. Britain should be more liberal and free as. result of the Liberal Democrats in power, including the proposals prepared for the first time, no doubt, we crossed a red line through enough of those already -. no more ".
- Intervention
- Farron shows that the government could have problems in monitoring plans. But Clegg told the Guardian earlier this week he held that civil liberties groups that are given the opportunity to challenge the plans when the conditions of the projects are published at the time of the Queen's speech.
Deputy Prime Minister added: "We're not just going to bounce the new legislation to Parliament, we will publish the proposed terms and subject to pre-legislative road to good legislation will be a deliberative process, .. an open process, which can be subjected to stress tests and real control. This is what pre-legislative adequate control, he said. "
Clegg said he saw the need to act as a settlement of the Act powers of investigation applies only to more traditional forms of communication. Does not apply to instant messaging and Skype calls, which means that employees are able to monitor the dates and times for these calls by persons under suspicion. The authorities still need a warrant to intercept the content of these communications.
