postheadericon India Says Google & Facebook Should Prescreen All User Generated Content To Stop Jerks

pushing companies to monitor for violations or terrorism were not enough, apparently, representatives of the Government of India have asked Google, Facebook, Microsoft and Yahoo to preview all the content generated by the user to try to remove "derogatory, inflammatory or defamatory" content to be published.

At the meeting, Mr. Sibal showed participants a Facebook page that slandered the president of the Congress Party, Sonia Gandhi. "This is unacceptable," he told the audience, said the executive, and asked them to find a way to control what is posted on their sites.

In the second meeting with the same leaders at the end of November, Mr. Sibal said he hoped that people using screen content, not technology said the executive.

The three executives, said Sibal said that these companies are expected to establish a proactive screening system, with staff to find and remove objectionable content before it is published.

Apparently, Kapil Sibal, Indian Minister of Telecommunications, does not understand the magnitude of what you ask, or the fact that it's impossible. How does one become a bureaucrat in charge of technology when we can not understand these basic concepts? Oh, shit, I have to assess in advance for such a "humiliating" comments today?
Seriously, we see this type of dementia increasingly these days, when politicians, who clearly
absolutely no idea fucking > about the technology of regulation, positive suggestions are coming up with crazy, without understanding the ramifications. The net effect in this case is almost certainly the end of any type of system user-generated content in India. Is this really what you want Sibal
