researchers at the University of Wisconsin-Madison have developed a way to generate electricity from renewable sources only the best known to man - his own breath. Thanks to a plastic microbelt developed by engineers Xudong Wang and Shi Jian Sun Chengliang. Made from a material called polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), this belt produces an electrical charge when the air flow at low speed pass over it and vibrates - as a result of this vaunted piezoelectric. Over time, Wang and his team were able to play with your system to the point where it could produce enough power to charge small electronic devices. "The flow of air from the normal human respiration is generally less than two meters per second," said Wang. "We believe that if we could make this material very thin, small vibrations can produce microwatts of power that could be useful for sensors or other devices implanted in the face." Researchers say the technology could be used to power small biomedical devices such as monitors battery of blood and a pacemaker, which generally do not require large amounts of energy. No word yet on when the system could make its way into the mainstream, but we are waiting with great anticipation.
