postheadericon Collection Society To Libraries: No Story Time For Kids Unless You Pay To Read Aloud

If there is a common feature of rights holders groups around the world, is his sense of right. If someone does something with a protected work, they feel they are entitled to regular pay for it. A good example is the request by the Authors Guild to Kindle owners are not allowed to use an experimental text-to-speech function, because it violates the whole concept of "human music" - and, by therefore, is likely, require the additional payment.

Across the Atlantic, the Belgian group SABAM was established as a copyright hardcore, with their attempts to force ISPs and social networking to establish a monitoring and filtering systems to fight against copyright infringement. His latest lawsuit shows the same apparent indifference of the negative consequences of its action:
Twice a month, the library [the Belgian city of] Dilbeek hosts about 10 children to introduce them into the magical world of books. A representative of the library in question is quoted in the report of De Morgen, as saying that there is no budget to compensate people who read to children, relying instead on volunteers (bless).

SABAM contacted the library to let them know you think this is unacceptable, however, and that

should start coughing money from cash to read stories aloud books copyrighted

. The representative of the library estimated could cost about 250 euros which is around $ 328) per year to pay for the right to SABAM - again - Read children's books

It should be noted that these are volunteers, so it's not a professional "performance". They are just generous and public spirited people do exactly what parents when reading to their children. In fact, it is difficult to imagine that SABAM trying to claim money for that too, someday.
course, if SABAM refuses to back down here, the most likely outcome is that many libraries across Belgium will cancel these readings for children. As a result, fewer young people entered the world of reading, some of them become readers and writers, fans will have less money. In other words, the attempt to SABAM to extend its reach into new areas, not only hurts children, which is obviously indifferent - but also people who claim to serve.
