Do iOS 6 users stick with Apple Maps? Snappli reckons it knows...
The application of data compression can see how many people are downloading data services - and therefore monitor the use of Google Maps and Apple. But what is the story?
What happens once the users of iPhone and iPad upgraded to iOS 6 cards and test application? Do you stay with him, or decided - in line with "sorry" letter from CEO Tim Cook Apple's website - do not live
Snappli, what a data compression service for iPhone users (in this sense, it is a bit like what RIM offers BlackBerry users to them) was track of what has happened in the last week, as people started upgrading to iOS 6, and in particular to provide data exchange Google for Apple's own data.
The graph is as follows:
Eldar Tuvey of Snappli said the numbers are:
. 64% of our users in the last week are now in iOS 6 (UK and U.S.) - in fact, 16% upgraded to iOS on the first day
. Before proceeding to iOS6, 25% of users will see Google maps at least once a day
. Once moved to iOS6, who immediately went to 35% of Apple users who use cards
. However, over the next five days falling to 4%
In short, Tuvey said: "Before iOS 6, one in four people have been using Google Maps [daily] after iOS 6, one in 25 are using Apple Cards daily, and that number is down .... "
At first glance, this is quite overwhelming: people are not downloading data via Apple cards. Therefore, they can not be used, right?
Unless there is a confounder: Google Maps using raster graphics iOS 5, iOS 6 graphics cards using vectors (the same format as Nokia and Google Maps for Android like)
frame vector data
The main difference between raster and vector graphics is that raster graphics are a fixed framework - essentially an image - while vector graphics are files that are encoded images can be scaled down or without additional data. There is a cost in terms of CPU to use vector graphics - but the great advantage is that you do not need to download additional data once you tiles
LetWikipedia explains:
vector graphics is the use of geometrical primitives such as points, lines, curves, and shapes or polygon (s), which are based on mathematical expressions to represent images in computer graphics. "Vector" in this context means more than a straight line.
is based on vector graphics formed by vectors (also called paths, or strokes) which lead through locations called control points. Each of these points has a defined position in the x and y axes of the work plan. Each point, well, it is a variety of databases, including the position of the point in the workspace and the direction of the vector (which is what defines the direction of the track). Each track can be assigned a color, a shape, thickness and also a filler. This does not affect the file size of a substantial, because all the information is in the structure, but describes how to draw the vector
The main difference is that Google Maps in iOS 5, because it uses raster graphics, requires repeated discharges. You see when you load a page maps.google.com in iOS 5, then switch the phone to airplane mode - so that the Wi-Fi and data are on - and then try to move out of the page. You will reach a point blank because there is no data.
In contrast, vector graphics cards are used in Apple require any additional downloads. You can confirm this by loading a page (choose your own site, for simplicity), then turn the data connection. Now try to scroll the page is loaded. You will be able to see details in the surrounding area. You can zoom in and out. If you are in a car or train, you should find that you can continue your journey - even plan your route, to a certain extent - with zero additional data. The entire United Kingdom is encapsulated in less than 200 MB, depending on CoPilot.
factor Korea
That was certainly my experience earlier this week in Korea, where Samsung has had a visit from an iPhone with iOS 6, which had no data contract. One night, I saw the highlights of North and South Korea (Apple cards are more detailed than Google does for North Korea, it is just a blank white). The next day, zero data coverage, we took a bus trip to a production Samsung.
- The phone traced throughout our trip, with street level data, including the names of the shops, all the way. And all the way back. And then later at the airport. All this without a single drop of additional data.
and zoom out. The lower edge of the screen is not filled - but after a while ago
approach just to see where we are. Again, this is all done by the vector data included with the original download from last night. .. and again ..

New Data Dump Shows Feds Massively Increased Spying On Who You're Talking To
federal hate to reveal this information, because of successful lawsuits by the ACLU, Department of Justice was forced to disclose information on the frequency of monitoring electronic communications of U.S. citizens without a warrant - ". trap and trace "with what is known as" pen register "and this type of monitoring is not a real communication (which is the NSA, apparently), but only the information that is communicated. For various reasons, this information is considered can get without a warrant. As expected, the data show an increase in the mass surveillance rather such by the Department of Justice.
The numbers are pretty amazing:
John Rogers returns with a silicon-silk circuit that dissolves inside your body
While you'd be forgiven for not knowing that John Rogers, which was published in these pages probably more than once. He is the director of research at the University of Illinois is already an innovator in the world of invisibility cloak and mobile technology. This time a team has cooked silicon, magnesium oxide, magnesium and silk circuit that is designed to dissolve in the body the same way as absorbable sutures are used in minor surgery. It is believed that the technology could eventually be used to implement monitors never eliminate, reduce invasive medical procedures, or even build devices that eventually become compost instead of e-waste - although we are not sure we appreciate our smartphone do the same thing when we call rain.

Panama's Government One Step Away From Passing The 'Worst Copyright Law In History'
infojustice.org reports that Bill 510 was adopted by Congress and is awaiting approval by the Executive Committee. Minister of Trade and Industry, Ricardo Quijano, seemed satisfied with their way through Congress:
[W] e implementation of this new law, our country [Panama] should be updated in the context of international and global.
Marcela
Palacia door (written by infojustice.org) asked whether the minister's statement is correct:
's Trade Minister right? International standards are applied by this law? This law gives special powers to the administrative body responsible for registration, storage, monitoring and inspection of copyright, allowing it to impose fines for offenders in violation of the general principles of law as "non bis in idem" and "presumption of innocence". Can equity and justice lead a refining process where the beneficiaries fines are the leaders of the organization?

Philippines law threatens press freedom
A new "cybercrime" bill introduced in the Philippines has increased penalties for defamation and gives excessive powers to the authorities to shut down websites and traffic control online.
According to Human Rights Watch (HRW), the penalties for online defamation amount to a serious threat to freedom of expression.
HRW Asia director, Brad Adams, said: "The Computer Crimes Act should be repealed or replaced Viola Filipinos rights to freedom of expression and is totally incompatible with the government's obligations the Philippines under international law. ".
a specific section that applies to defamation crimes "committed by a computer system or other similar means can be developed in the future."
- Increases the penalty for defamation related to computing, reach the minimum sentence of six months to six years. The maximum penalty is doubled from six to 12 years in prison.
- Filipino journalists have been jailed for defamation in recent years. Radio journalist Alexander Adonis, who was convicted for libel in 2007, spent two years in prison.

Review: Parallels Desktop 8 vs. VMware Fusion 5
Virtualization Both applications are relatively stable. Donâ ? T T has a simple accident either, but we had some minor problems at once. In the merger, for example, in and out of full screen mode and flashes more decisions redesigned in Parallels. Using Parallels, however, had some applications fail on Windows (which donâ ? T t Happen Fusion), and there were times when you just couldnâ? T type my password in the entry system Linux.
Virtualization Windows MeanwhileStart
appsâ???? The brilliant new full-screen applications for Windows 8A???? He has also worked very well as I used when I was only running on each Windows virtualization program??? T s â ? ~? windowedâ???? mode (Windows itself, rather than each Windows application has its own individual window OS X).Trying to use
startup applications, while Consistency (Parallels) or drive (Fusion) modes (which give each Windows application its own OS X Windows) has had its challenges. It can be done in the merger, but only if you have a house at a time. If you start another, replacing the application is running.Parallels
trying to solve this problem by each time you start the application in full screen on your own desktop OS X. In theory, this should allow a user to run multiple applications at the same time the beginning. In my tests, however, I found that donâ?? T quite work. Sometimes I could not select workstations, at other times, you can select the desktop, but not the application itself. (I must say that Parallelsâ???? Supporting Windows 8 is still in development, so some glitches Arena? G unexpected.)The home interface, running on Parallels Desktop 8.
Parallels allows you to drag and drop attachments directly from Outlook on Windows has a wizard to help those who use Windows submission to make presentations on projectors. Now you can also drag and drop files and folders between Windows and Mac OS X.
virtualization OS X and Linux
Want to try something suspicious piece of software? Using a virtual machine. You want to experiment with changing the system configuration? Using a virtual machine. Running a virtual copy of Mac OS X is useful for all sorts of reasons. But if you can accept some limitations, the two virtualization applications run OS X very well.
two, it is easy to virtualize mountain lion, using the installation file itself or the recovery partition Lion Mountain. Unfortunately, both suffer from the same defects:??? Youâ will find a virtual machine OS X has much less energy than equivalent Windows. You Cana???? T accelerated 3D graphics. You Cana???? T drag and drop files between the virtual operating system and the real OS. You Cana???? T execute a multi-screen virtual OS X.
