we report a Band Kotaku National Intelligence Centre National Threat Assessment gang in 2011. Kotaku is specifically in the report of the task by the inclusion of Second Life as a tool used by gangs to communicate and recruit. In the report's main conclusions (PDF, integrated below), the NGIC exposes its primary concern in the technology used by the bands:

Gangs are becoming more adaptable and sophisticated, using new technologies to facilitate criminal activity with discretion to increase their criminal operations and to connect with other members of the gang, organized crime, although possible national and even global level.



Basically, the problem is that the Internet has enabled the group to get out of neighborhoods and cities and extend its influence throughout the world. This may be a concern for law enforcement, but do you really need to worry much about what?


gang members often use the Internet to communicate, recruit, promote your group, intimidate rivals and police, gang cases, posting of illegal logging and to facilitate criminal activity. .. Social networks, microblogging, and video sharing sites - like Facebook, Youtube and Twitter - are now more accessible, versatile and allow tens of thousands of gang members to easily communicate, recruit and train new alliances of gangs across the country and around the world. Fortunately, the report does not go as far as to suggest an action plan on exactly what to do about the technology used by the bands. Based on the recent actions of the United States, as adopted by BART, we would probably call off the anonymity, the ability of increased surveillance and the ability to disable these services if they are used by gangs and their members. Attempts to prevent piracy by law as soup / PROTECT-IP, as a movement will not stop any group or individual violation of the law to do what they do. Such a measure would only hurt law-abiding citizens and groups that are based on communication tools. This is a lesson that many people in government are still learning
