postheadericon Terrafugia Transition aircraft gets DOT roadworthiness sign-off, can now drive you to the airport

For most experimental aircraft, earning a certificate of airworthiness is challenge enough. But the Terrafugia Transition is a unique type of flying machine that the approval is likely to spend not only by the FAA, but also from the USDOT 's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), there is this air / ground-hybrid as much time cruising on the highway, as they fly above 5,000 feet. The transition is now something closer to the start, with the NHTSA \ making exceptions for absentee airbags, a lack of electronic stability system, and the aircraft's lightweight polycarbonate window (polycarbonate is lighter than automotive safety glass, and won 't break and obscure a pilot 's vision in the event of a bird strike). Unfortunately, the transition is to fly over other hurdles - the cabin is on the implementation of 330 pounds when fully fueled, including limited passengers, and the price is up 41 percent to $ 250,000. In the meantime Terrafugia hopes to move forward with the production later this year, bringing the 'flying car' something closer to a start-off and landing (and highway) in your area.
